You don’t need to model to be a PT

I’ve been a personal trainer for almost 9 years and the phrases “less is more” and “sex sales” is definitely coming into play with alot of personal trainers that a) don’t have a clue what they’re doing because they’re copying what other fitness icons do and/or b) there’s a memo going around (I didn’t get the memo by the way) that it is now the new way to advertise yourself as a PT (Personal Trainer).

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MODEL TO BE A PT!

You do not need to be taking well over priced photos, with over ratted photographers, topless in CK pants, with Freedom toilet paper stuffed down your briefs.

From my experience, it doesn’t bring you clients that are SERIOUS about training long term! It could although, bring interest from the opposite sex or same sex of course, but are you a personal trainer to create a successful business or someone seeking one night stands ???

The most important thing to do once qualified is found out what makes YOU different, in fact, you should have known this before you considered becoming a PT.

IM NOT SAYING DOING UNDERWEAR PHOTOSHOOTS LIKE YOU’RE JUSTIN BIEBER IS WRONG, no no!

What I’m saying is that, it’s NOT NEEDED to get a underwear photoshoot lined up once you’ve qualified as a personal trainer and then use these photos as your business photos to “attract” clients. I’m even surprised to see the amount of male and females using underwear photoshoots for their LinkedIn hoping to make connections.

To make things easier for a lot of you newbies and some struggling, I’ve listed five things you need to do to standout as a personal trainer!

  • 1. FIND OUT WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE- Are you a long distance runner that’s built like Arnold, are you small like an ant, but strong like Hercules?? If so, USE this to your advantage!!
  • 2. NETWORK – Whether it’s via social media, talking to members at the gym (by talking i don’t mean offering every member a complementary session), teach classes etc
  • 3. BUILD YOURSELF A TEAM- You need someone/people that can do your branding, promote your services, give you feedback even if it’s things you don’t want to hear, to help you improve!
  • 4. READ – After your level 3 qualification the reading doesn’t stop! And when I say reading I don’t mean a couple men’s fitness magazine or women’s health!
  • 5. BE YOU- We adore top fitness icons, but unconsciously follow their patterns and do what they do hoping for the same results and most times, it’s never the case!
  • Now hopefully this can help in the smallest or biggest way. Start being you and build yourself a SUCCESSFUL long lasting business.
